EPISODE ELEVEN: GENERATION X
Hi mates! I’ve been really enjoying doing the Generation X numbers especially ‘King Rocker’ and ‘Running with the Boss Sound’ as when ‘Valley of the Dolls’ came out in January of ’79 it got severely panned by the English music press as we strayed from our original punk sound and mixed Punk with Rock and made an album that pushed the boundaries of what we, as a band, could do musically instead of following by rote the musical fashions of the day. We only played the albums songs on a short tour of the U.K and soon after the original band split over internal pressures and managerial problems so we never really got to get into what the album was about. It is great to see that the songs hold up all these years later and that ,you the fans, are enjoying them. I see you mouthing the words and really getting in to them. I know Tony James is proud about his lyrics as i am with the music and melodies i came up with for that album. Billy Morrisson does Derwood’s leads great and we are probably nailing the songs as well, if not better than, the original band! It makes me think in future tours we may play other selections from the album but for the moment these two songs are a great tip of the hat to a record that was overlooked in it’s day.
The tour rolls on and the playing of the present members gets better with each gig so keep rocking and see you at the shows rocking out to Idol music old and new.
Love BFI Xxx.
