EPISODE TEN: BACK IN THE USA
Hi there mates! The tour is up and running again. It feels good to be playing in the U.S. where we are not so jet lagged. The set list we are playing at the moment (Roseburg/Perchanga/LA) was synthesised by experimenting with different combinations of numbers old and new throughout the six weeks in Europe and the present set list seems to be right for this tour. That’s not to say we won’t make alterations if they seem necessary or throw a number in if it feels right but at the moment the way this set works is so dynamite and seems to have something for every Idol fan old and new. Like it’s magic to see you singing along to ‘Boss Sound’ and ‘Kingrocker’. (Jesus i only just relearnt the words myself!) But i’m having a blast and i feel this set is working so well that i’d hate to deny any Idol fan, old and new, the present experience as the audiences have been responding really well! We’ll see but i hope the lack of surprises is understandable from this statement.
The Band, old and new members, are so committed it doesn’t feel like we are just retreading the old greatest hits – in fact i’ve been singing everthing as if they are new songs which is an incredible feeling after all these years.
Jeremy ‘the groove machine’ Colson and Billy Morrison are really valued new members and have brought a fresh pespective and energy as well as great playing chops! The new songs, (written by Idol/Stevens/Morrison), ‘Love is Strange’, ‘Kings and Queens’, ‘Scarred for Life’, i feel are really up to par and whether we make an album or get the songs out in a more timely fashion by way of an E.P. (i.e. four songs) we will have to see what would work best after this tour ends. Thanks for hanging thru the ups and downs of mine and Steve Stevens career (he’s playing better than ever) but life and music don’t happen in a straight line – there are twists and turns and ups and downs, that’s way it is i guess?
There will be more Idol TV and more rock and roll so let’s have a fucking great summer!
Your mate,
BFI Xxx
